Get that “new Mac” smell all the time with a $24 scented candle

When you close your eyes and imagine opening a new Apple product, what kind of fragrances do you pick up? Glue fumes, solvents and plastic outgassing, right? You probably don’t imagine hints of mint, peach, basil, lavender, mandarin and sage, but that’s exactly the essence of the world’s first “New Mac” scented candle.

It’s enough to make me wonder whether the candle’s name is a pure coincidence, but any doubt I had is immediately beaten back from the included photograph, which shows the candle balanced on a big stack of Apple packaging… which seems like an accident waiting to happen to me, but I’m sure they know what they’re doing.new_mac_scented_candle

There’s also the chance that those responsible have never opened a new Mac before, but that seems less likely when the candle is the creation of Apple accessory maker TwelveSouth. The company also sells such niche Apple paraphernalia as a ⌘Q staring T-shirt, which I’m sure appeals to someone, somewhere. Maybe.

Anyway, should you wish to purchase the 100% soy wax candle and have that new Mac smell on demand, it will set you back $24 (around £19, with the pound so weak). It promises a burn time of 45 to 55 hours, which is approximately five-and-a-half full charges of a MacBook battery. By which time your new Mac smell will almost certainly have left the building.

Except actually, you can’t buy it at the moment. For some unfathomable reason, the product has actually sold out for now. Guess you’ll just have to go back to purchasing a Mac a day to get your new-smell fix and those sweet hints of mint and peach.
