How to use the face-swap feature in Snapchat

When Snapchat first came out five years ago, it was all about self-destructing messages – but it’s got so much better since then. In 2016, the Snapchat app lets you play around with your selfies, giving you a range of features to mess around with your face.

The latest Snapchat update brought loads of cool filters and lenses, and the new face-swap feature has to be one of the best: it lets you swap faces with someone next to you, or even a picture in your camera roll – and it’s as ridiculous as it sounds. Here’s how to use it:

How to swap faces with your friends on Snapchat

1. First, launch the Snapchat app, and make sure that it’s using your front-facing camera. If it’s not, just tap the camera icon on the top right of your screen to get to selfie mode.
2. After that, you’ll need to hold down or tap on your face. You should see a grid flash up showing that your face has been mapped, it’s ready for you to select faces and lenses.
3. There are loads of lenses to choose from, but we’re after the one that lets you swap faces. To do that, scroll through the lenses at the bottom of the screen, and look for the one with two faces separated by two arrows. You should also see two large face icons on your screen.
4. To get your face swap, you then need to line up your face and a friend’s under the two icons – but you will need to be pretty close for it to work. If you’ve done it correctly, they should glow yellow before merging your faces.
5. If it doesn’t seem to be working, try moving the camera around slightly, or tapping your screen over both faces. If you move away from each other, the face swap will stop working.

How to swap your face with a picture on Snapchat

1. Snapchat also allows you to map a picture onto your face, and it’s quite simple to do. First repeat the same steps as above, but instead of selecting the side-by-side transformation, scroll for the second option that looks like a face along with a camera.
2. Snapchat will then give you a selection of faces from your camera roll, and clicking on one will map it to your face.
3. After that you can send your Snapchats to your friends as normal, or save them to your camera roll.
