Mozilla has squashed all the bugs in the latest beta for Firefox 4, and is working on a release candidate.

Reports suggest Mozilla will unveil the RC on 9 March, but the open-source developer hasn't set a date. A spokeswoman said Mozilla expects the RC next week.

Developer Benjamin Smedberg said in a message to fellow coders that the Mozilla developer hub was "now closed so that release engineering can prepare Firefox 4 release candidates."

He said Mozilla was working on opening development for changes that will affect Firefox Mobile 4 as well as the next desktop version, Firefox 5.

That suggests the mobile version won't be ready alongside Firefox 4. The mobile browser is based on the same platform as the full version, and will sync with it so settings, tabs and bookmarks follow users from their desktops to their handsets.

Mozilla told PC Pro earlier this week that it would speed up its release cycle, mimicking Chrome's more frequent releases with fewer features. Developers are expecting Firefox 5 to arrive within three months.
