Samsung is under fire from customers angered over the length of time it has taken to fix a glitch that bricks Android handsets.

According to an anguished forum thread, the copy-paste bug affects numerous handsets, including the Galaxy SIII, with devices crashing when the clipboard is used heavily, requiring a factory reset to get the device moving again.

"Samsung devices running TouchWiz and Android 3.0 or higher have a fatal clipboard bug that can cause it to become permanently unusable until a factory reset," wrote the initial poster back in October last year. "It seems to occur randomly. Whenever a user tries to copy something, this error occurs in the system ClipboardManager class."

"The application that the user is using crashes. The only fix for this is to perform a factory reset or to clear the contents of /data/clipboard as a rooted user. Since this directory does not exist in stock Android, the fault is clearly with the Samsung software."

In a forum that's run to more than 100 posts, Samsung has come under fire for the length of time it's taken to fix the issue, despite a Samsung developer saying last October that "I think that it will be resolved soon".

Nearly five months on, Samsung has yet to properly address the issue, leaving customers increasingly frustrated, although some users report that clearing the clipboard can solve the problem.

"I think at least a workaround after months could be found," said a disgruntled Daniele Mazzoni.

"If it involves some programming please let us know nonetheless but don't ignore this large group of Samsung fans who are getting more and more disappointed every day not having a solution for a very basic function of their telephone."

Samsung couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
