Evernote plans to build its own hardware

Evernote plans to make its own devices - but won't say what they'll be

Evernote is planning to expand from making note-taking apps into making its own hardware.

The company hasn't stated which type of device it had in mind, with CEO Phil Libin taking a leaf out of the Apple marketing manual, telling PC World it would be "new and magical".

The Evernote-branded hardware really could be anything: Evernote is already integrated into a wide variety of products, including scanners, printers, tablets, smart pens and health monitors - as well as Google Glass and a Samsung fridge.

"We won’t actually do the manufacturing, but we’ll do the co-design together," Libin said at a conference in Japan. "Eventually, in a few years — three, four, five — I think we’ll be ready to do something ourselves."

The company added that it was planning to introduce two-factor authentication to its accounts next month, following a hacking attack in March.
