PC Pro has received a leaked specification of the compact Android tablet that Tesco plans to launch next week.

The 7in device will boast an IPS panel with a 1,280 x 720 resolution, according to the leaked specification which arrives via Ewen Rankin's British Tech Network.

It's powered by an unspecified 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a quad-core graphics chip. The Tesco tablet comes with 16GB of onboard storage, but a microSD slot will allow users to boost that allocation.

The tablet will have two cameras, a 2-megapixel camera on the front and a 3-megapixel device on the rear. It will also include the usual roster of sensors and radios, such as a gyroscope, accelerometer, GPS and Bluetooth.

Tesco has yet to confirm the price of the device, but it's being pitched against the similarly specified Kindle Fire HD, which starts at £159.

Tesco is also following Amazon's model of selling cheap hardware to further its own online content services. The tablet will ship with BlinkBox film, music and books apps, as well as access to Clubcard TV, which provides a selection of free TV programmes to members of the supermarket's loyalty scheme.

Unlike Amazon, however, Tesco won't be creating a bespoke version of Android, instead opting for the stock OS.

The precise name of the tablet wasn't on the leaked spec, but the devices will bear the HUDL brand.

The supermarket is expected to officially launch the device early next week.
