It has been confirmed the next generation of its One series of phones, the HTC One Mini 2, will be released in June this year. See also: what's the best smartphone of 2014?

The 4.5in 720p-screen Android smartphone will feature a 5 megapixel front-facing camera, two front-facing with HTC BoomSound speakers, and will come in the same three colours as the HTC One M8 – Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver, and Amber Gold.

The camera also has a timer that, the company claims, “guarantees high-quality selfies”. However, if you’re not quite happy with the outcome, you can use the inbuilt Touch Up software to get rid of red eye or “enhance” what mother nature gave you by "smoothing skin" and “adjusting facial contours”.

Other specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 16GB internal memory and a microSD card slot, and HTC Sense 6 UI with BlinkFeed.

At 65 x 10.6 x 137.4 mm (WDH) and weighing in at 137g, it is marginally larger and heavier than the original HTC One Mini, but is significantly smaller than the One M8.

The existence of the One Mini 2 was leaked a day ahead of schedule, after the National Communications Commission, Taiwan’s communications regulator, published details of the handset on its website, after approving it for sale on the local market.

In a blog post, HTC called the smartphone “the perfect solution if you want a smaller Android phone”.

Peter Chou, CEO of HTC added: “It’s the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of the HTC One M8 yet want something more compact.”
