The phone that bore a thousand tweets: Trump surrenders smartphone

Donald Trump has allegedly made that most gallant of presidential sacrifices – trading in his personal smartphone for an uber secure, Secret Service-approved contraption. Schrodinger’s president – as he’s being quipped in the office, due to uncertainty of when T-Day actually commences and Donald Trump ACTUALLY becomes President Trump – has traded in the Android phone widely speculated to be his principal tweeting tool.

The phone that bore a thousand tweets: Trump surrenders smartphone

Messages from Trump’s Twitter account come from both Android and iOS devices, but analysis shows that the Android tweets are the more vitriolic, prompting the belief that that particular phone is operated by Trump personally. The New York Times has reported that Trump is anxious at the prospect of being isolated should his personal Android phone be taken away. So unfair! So biased!

That being said, even the stoic Barack Obama has testified to the hardship of such a trade-in, lamenting on The Tonight Show: “Does your three-year-old have one of those play phones? That’s basically the phone I got.” Indeed, as recently as 2016, Obama was forced to hand in his NSA-enhanced Blackberry for an even more secure smartphone that restricted his ability to take pictures, text, or play music. Harrowing stuff.

But before London’s media hub descends into frenzy – how will we generate content without the wealth of comedic material emanating from Trump’s Twitter account – the show isn’t over yet. At the start of 2015, Obama had to borrow an iPhone registered to his staff to send his first personal tweet, an option that looks like it’s open to Trump too.

Yep, as recently as Thursday, the jingoistic juggernaut that is Trump’s online presence was revived by an Android device that delivered the following tweet: “Getting ready to leave for Washington, D.C. The journey begins and I will be working and fighting very hard to make it a great journey for […] the American people. I have no doubt that we will, together, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

So all the “losers and haters” will probably have to put up with Trump’s tweets for a bit longer. SAD!
