Admit it. We were all fans of Sphero’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens BB-8 toy when it was launched last year, but a new software update means it just got even better. To celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-Ray, the people at Sphero have given BB-8 the ability to watch the film with you.
To get BB-8 as a viewing buddy, you’ll first need to update the Sphero BB-8 app, (available on iOS and Android), and then give it permission to use your device’s microphone. Why? Because that’s how BB-8 will ‘watch’ The Force Awakens.
To get the best reaction out of BB-8, Sphero recommends putting your device close to the TV, and keeping BB-8 on charge: The Force Awakens is around two hours long, and emotionally and physically draining for the spherical robot, too.
