The AirPods and their latest iteration, the AirPods Pro, are a considerable tech innovation in the world of wireless earphones. They have some of the most fantastic and advanced features that topple the competitors.

Although they do have a hefty price tag attached to their name, the excellent features and overall quality make AirPods more than worth your money. Here’s how to make a phone call, as well as other useful tips.
Making a Phone Call
Making phone calls is one of AirPods’ main features. It’s straightforward, and you don’t need any prior experience.
Let’s talk about answering phone calls first. Apple has made it very straightforward. When you hear a call coming in, double-tap either one of your AirPods (while they’re in your ears) to answer. With the AirPods Pro, touch the force sensor. To hang up, do the same.
To make a phone call with the AirPods Pro and 2nd-gen AirPods, you’re going to have to use Siri. Luckily, the earbuds are already fully set up, as long as you’ve set up Siri. Just say, “Hey Siri, call [name]’s mobile.” Alternatively, say, “Hey Siri, Make a FaceTime Call.” You can also summon Siri with a touch.
With 1st-gen AirPods, simply double-tap either one to summon Siri and wait until you hear a chime. Then, proceed as described above.
That’s not where the use of Siri ends with the AirPods. The virtual assistant can also announce who is calling you. With the AirPods and Siri, you don’t have to so much as look at your Apple Watch. To turn this feature on, go to Settings, navigate to Phone, and then select Announce Calls. Select Headphones & Car to enable this feature in your vehicle.
Double-Tap Functions
Yes, you can use the double-tap to answer phone calls, and even make them. However, this gesture does have some advanced uses. You can set it to Play/Pause a song, jump to the next one, or return to the previous one.
To set this up, go to Settings on your iOS device, navigate to Bluetooth, and find your AirPods on the list. Then, click the i icon next to the device and tap Double-Tap on AirPod to select what task you want the double-tap to perform.
Set the Microphone to Left/Right
The position of the mic is also important for making and receiving phone calls through your AirPods. By default, both AirPods act as microphones. Once you remove either from the ear, its mic deactivates. They switch automatically.
If you go to Settings, select Bluetooth, find your AirPods device and select the blue i icon, you’ll get to adjust the mic. To do it, choose Microphone from the list and pick either your left or right AirPod to act as an always-on mic. That means that the AirPod will continue serving as a microphone, even if you take it out of your ear.
Use a Single AirPod
If you’re wondering why some people prefer using a single AirPod at a time, here’s the answer. Because it saves their battery life. By default, each AirPod supports stereo sound, so using a single one won’t be a too big quality compromise.
That’s particularly useful if you mostly use the AirPods to make phone calls. Of course, while you’re using one AirPod, the other one is in the case, charging. When the one you use runs out of the battery, you can switch. Yes, this means that you can have a non-stop AirPod experience. Well, at least until the case is empty.
The Amazing AirPods
The AirPods, Pro or not, offer some fantastic benefits that you wouldn’t get with any other wireless earbud brand. They also have many other excellent features outside receiving/making phone calls. The AirPods are a brilliant addition to your Apple arsenal. No, they aren’t cheap, but they are more than worth it.
