Sometimes, we take screenshots for fun. Other times, we have practical reasons to document the conversations we’re having. Screenshots are important for a number of reasons.

If you have an iPhone 8 or 8+, you have two basic ways to take a screenshot. You can use the iPhone buttons or you can use your phone’s accessibility features to capture an image. If you want to go for the second option, you’ll need to do some preparation.
How Can You Take Screenshots Using the iPhone Buttons?
Here is the simplest way to take a screenshot with your iPhone 8/8+:
Press the Side Button
This is the button you use to wake your phone from sleep mode.
Press the Home Button at the Same Time
The Home button is the round button on the front of your phone.
Wait for a Preview
When you take a screenshot, the display will briefly go white. You’ll see a preview of your new screenshot in the bottom left corner of the screen. Tap on the preview to edit the image.
How Can You Take Screenshots Using Assistive Touch?
Some users find it uncomfortable or impossible to press down the Side button and Home button at the same time. If that is the case for you, you can use the accessibility options that come with these phones.
Assistive Touch makes it possible to take screenshots with two simple taps on the screen. Even if you don’t find it difficult to use the button combination above, you may prefer using Assistive Touch instead because it lets you take a screenshot with one hand.
However, Assistive Touch requires a bit of setup.
1. Enable Assistive Touch
First, you want to make sure that this option is enabled on your phone. Follow these steps to turn it on:
Go into Settings
Select General
Select Accessibility
Turn on Assistive Touch
Tap on this option and then turn the toggle to on.
2. Customize Assistive Touch
Now, you want to add screenshotting to your top level menu. This will make it possible to access the screenshot option very easily.
Go into Settings
Select General
Select Accessibility
Tap on Assistive Touch
Tap on Customize Top Level Menu…
Select the plus sign to add a new feature and scroll down to Screenshot.
Select Screenshot
Tap on Done
You can change your Assistive Touch settings at any time.
3. Use Assistive Touch
After you’ve set up Assistive Touch, here is how you can take a screenshot:
Tap the Assistive Touch Button
This is a white button that appears on the side of your screen. Selecting this button opens the top level menu.
Tap on the Screenshot Icon
As you have added screenshotting to your top level menu, you can easily access it from any screen.
What Can You Do with the Screenshot?
After your phone takes a screenshot, you can view it here:
Photos > Albums > Screenshots
When you tap on the screenshot you want to view, your phone will open an image editor.
You can crop your screenshot and easily post it to social media. Additionally, you can draw on it, add text, or embed your signature.
A Final Thought
If you want to screenshot a video or a game, it is important to act quickly. Delayed screenshots are useless, so if you prefer the Assistive Touch option, you should set it up in advance. Then, you can take one-handed screenshots whenever you like.
