With the iPhone 7 expected to arrive this September, now is a great time to pick up an iPhone 6s if you’re not fussed about having Apple‘s latest shiny mobile device. Since its launch last year, deals around Apple’s phone have become cheaper than ever, representing excellent value for those wishing to upgrade.

Of course, you have to understand that cheap is a relative term here. No Apple products are cheap or generally affordable – except for the iPhone SE. As such, many of these deals will still require you to pay an upfront cost to acquire a handset, and then pay a monthly fee for the privilege of owning one.

iPhone 6s deals: UK phone plans

The UK phone market is an absolute minefield. Take a look on any mobile carrier’s website and you’ll be inundated with deals offering incremental pricing options for various packages of data and texts.

Buying a new phone can be a confusing process. Not only is there an abundance of great smartphones available in 2015, but various contract deals and perks muddy the water. However, don’t worry, we’ve waded through the sludge of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus deals to find out the best ones in the UK.

Unless stated otherwise, all deals here are for the 16GB iPhone 6s and 6s Plus model on a 24-month contract.

O2 iPhone 6s plans:

O2 has taken an interesting route with its iPhone 6s contracts. Instead of offering up lengthy 24-month contracts, O2 automatically enrolls you in its “Refresh” programme, allowing you to change your phone 12 months into a contract without any additional costs. While such a system is fantastic for those who just have to have the latest iPhone, it’s a service that clearly bumps the price of iPhone contracts up somewhat artificially.

If the sound of a new phone every 12 months piques your interest, O2 also offers up certain “recommended” plans that come with some rather nice perks.

These plans, which are actually the best O2 has to offer, provide you with damage and breakdown cover on top of a standard contract. This means you’re covered for another year of the iPhone’s standard warranty, alongside accidental damage in case you smash your screen.

However, if you send your phone in for a repair, you’ll have to pay an excess fee of £55 – still better than shelling out over £100 for an Apple repair job.

Cheapest O2 deals:

O2’s cheapest iPhone deals aren’t astoundingly affordable. They don’t come with extended warranty or damage cover, and they only provide a measly 1GB data allowance. You can still upgrade your phone within 12 months at no extra charge, though.

EE iPhone 6s plans:

Like O2, EE offers a mind-boggling array of options to customers. However, it’s worth remembering that EE doesn’t offer the same 12 month upgrade service, extended warranty or free accidental damage repairs.

While EE’s website recommends two rather attractive iPhone 6s and 6s Plus packages, don’t be lured in by its advertising. Instead, by paying just £4 more a month (and £20 more upfront), you can bag over four times more data allowance for iPhone 6s and double the allowance for 6s Plus.

Cheapest EE deals:

Just like O2’s, bar the option to upgrade to a new phone within 12 months, EE’s cheapest deals are disproportionately worse than slightly more expensive ones. Also like O2, EE offers just 1GB of data to iPhone 6s users. Keep that in mind when looking for a cheap contract.

Vodafone iPhone 6s plans:

Vodafone’s iPhone 6s plans are actually really good value for those insistent on having a phone and tariff combined. Every iPhone contract with Vodafone comes with three months of unlimited data, fixed price for the whole agreement, and the option of a year’s subscription to Netflix, Spotify Premium, Now TV or Sky Sports Mobile TV. Not bad, all things considered.

With all of that in mind, Vodafone’s cheapest deals are actually still the best fit for many. It offers up more than both EE and O2, and asks for less money.
