Google’s Gboard iPhone app hits the UK: This keyboard will change how you text

Just a few weeks ago, Google unveiled Gboard, a new keyboard designed for iOS devices – but it was only available in the US. Third-party keyboards don’t usually get me excited, but Gboard has the potential to change how you use your iPhone and iPad, and it’s now available in the UK.

So why am I raving about Gboard? Well, if you’ve needed to search for something while texting your friends, you’ll know how much of an awkward process it is. First you need to leave the chat, fire up your browser, search the thing, then reopen your messaging app and tell your friends the results.

Now, I’m aware that’s the definition of a first-world problem, but it’s pretty long-winded, isn’t it? Fear not, because now Google has a solution, and it’s called Gboard. That’s a mish-mash of Google and keyboard by the way – pretty clever.

Although it’s technically a keyboard app, Gboard lets you search from within your messaging app, effectively letting you look stuff up and share it in just a few taps. And because it’s a keyboard app, Gboard also comes with emojis, GIFs and glide typing – so 2016.

Apple may have shown off a totally revamped version of Messages just last week, but for me Google’s Gboard app is far more useful. I’ve already downloaded it, and if you’ve got an iPhone and iPad, I suggest you do the same.
