If you’re a fan of motorsports like me, you’ll often find it hard to watch all the races you want to. In the past, when Formula 1 was on the BBC, and the BTCC was on at normal times, it was easy to watch races live – or even watch the highlights later in the day.
Now, however, bidding wars for TV rights have made motorsports a far more fragmented affair, meaning you often have to look for streams, zap to obscure Freeview channels or subscribe to Sky to get your racing fix – and that’s if you can even find it. Yet, a new service is trying to put all the motorsport you want in one place, and it’s now available in the UK.
Called Motor Trend OnDemand, the service is essentially like a Netflix for racing, and gives you a range of highlights and live content to get stuck into. Some of the live racing you can watch includes the DTM, BTCC, 24 Hours Nürburgring, Blancpain GT Series and FIM Motorcycle Racing – disciplines you’d usually have to hunt for forever to watch live.
The app also has a range of original content, but my first stop would be the F1 archives. Featuring season reviews from 1988 to as recent as 2012, the archives are a great way to learn about the history of the sport. And they also feature some of the best driving you’ll see from greats such as Senna, Häkkinen and Alonso.
As you’d expect, Motor Trend OnDemand is available on desktop, the App Store and the Google Play store, and prices start at $5.99 a month. You can sign up here.
