Scan also included an Audigy 4 Pro, complete with breakout box. It gives 7.1 audio, with enough advanced driver and digital output options to keep most audiophiles happy. The luxury continues with two DVD writers, making for powerful backup and burning options.

Given the abundance of high-quality components throughout the system and its sheer cost, it’s a shame Scan ships the system with a limited two-year warranty. The first is on-site cover, which is much appreciated, but the second year of return-to-base covers labour only.
The Scan Taipan is specified to the point of obscenity, with its four hard disks, 2GB of RAM, dual 512MB 6800 Ultras and twin DVD writers. Gaming performance is equally incredible, strolling through every one of our tests with no problem, even at the most outrageous settings. The Taipan lags behind similarly priced AMD systems in our application benchmarks, but it’s more than fast enough to sneer at practically anything you throw at it. And as if the bright green casing wasn’t distinctive enough, Scan also plans on adding a whole host of motifs and details to the case, which you can see on the 3XS site, 3xs.scan.co.uk
