There’s a USB hub in almost everything these days, and here’s one in a speaker. Although it looks like a mono setup, there’s a separate 3W speaker behind each side grille for stereo output. You also get volume, bass and treble controls, plus orange backlighting!
Power for the speakers is provided through a single USB cable, with mini-jack for the audio. The hub is only USB 1.1, although for slower peripherals such as your keyboard, mouse or printer it’s satisfactory.
The Cubite won’t fill a room with sound, but for personal use there’s ample volume. It lacks bass, though, and there isn’t much stereo separation with two speakers in the same box. But it’s an improvement on your average laptop’s built-in sound, and this is where it will feel at home, boosting audio and the USB ports in one go.
