Dennis Publishing’s Three Peaks Challenge: Assessing the summit

Some people will tell you that preparation is everything, but there’s something to be said about going in blind, not knowing the horrors that await you. As explained in the previous update on this, seven of Dennis Publishing’s finest will be attempting the Three Peaks Challenge next month in aid of CASPA, and this week lifestyle brand director Kimberley Stone has scouted out Snowdon on our behalf.

Dennis Publishing’s Three Peaks Challenge: Assessing the summit

“It was a little harder than I anticipated! Good fun, though, and the views are beautiful if it’s clear,” she explained on Slack, while everybody quietly reconsidered their life choices. “We did it in 3:44, so I think the four hours they’ve given as a guide is achievable.”3_peaks_challenge_dennis_publishing

Here’s Kimberley standing proudly 1,085 metres above sea level after, in her own words, “using muscles I never thought I had”.

In case the picture above wasn’t proof enough, I can quash any conspiracy theory right here right now by logging in to the Fitbit team analytics for the week.Screen Shot 2016-06-21 at 15.42.50.png

Yeah, that pink line there is Kimberley, putting everyone to shame by managing a whopping 22,297 steps and burning 1,620 calories in the process. According to the sensors built into her Fitbit, her heart rate hit 190. “We’ll be fine as long as we do non-stop squats from now until we go,” she concluded.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the Fitbit dashboard to make sure they do just that.

Speaking of analytics, another piece in the analytic-tracking puzzle arrived this week with a Fitbit Aria scale. The wireless scales link up with everyone in the team’s devices to record weight and body fat percentage to see if all the preparations are helping weight loss.fitbit_on_snowden_3_peaks

Very helpful technology, taking the pain out of tracking fitness, of course. Secretly, however, I’m pretty glad that I’ve had to take off my Fitbit this week while reviewing other wearables. I don’t need a second set of scales judging me day to day, thank you very much.

This is the second in a series of the Dennis team’s preparations for the Three Peaks Challenge. If you wish to sponsor us, you can do so here or learn more about CASPA on their official site.
