Galaxy S9/S9+ – How to Change Lock Screen

Keeping your phone locked when you’re not using it is practical for a number of reasons. It protects your documents from prying eyes and makes it impossible to open an app by accident.

But how do you set up a lock screen that fits your needs exactly? Here’s what you need to know about lock screen settings and personalization on the Galaxy S9 and S9+.

Changing the Lock Screen

To set or change your lock screen, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select “Lock Screen and Security”
  3. Tap on the “Secure Lock Settings” Option

From here, you can decide how much time should pass before your screen locks automatically. If you like, you can select the option to switch to the lock screen every time you press the power key.

This is also where you can change the unlocking methods. For example, you can add or remove a PIN password. If your phone’s already PIN-locked, you’ll have to enter the code to continue.

Lock Screen Notifications

Under Settings > Lock Screen and Security, you can change the way your phone’s lock screen shows notifications. For example, you can disable notifications from a specific app when the phone is locked. To hide all notifications, switch the first toggle to OFF.

How Do You Change the Wallpaper on Your Lock Screen?

There are a few different ways to do this on the Galaxy S9 and S9+. You could access the Wallpapers app through Settings, but this option only shows you Samsung’s theme store. You might prefer to use your downloads or photos instead.

To get to all your options, do the following:

  1. Tap on an Empty Place on Your Home Screen
  2. Select Wallpaper – Now you can use one of Samsung’s wallpapers, or you can select the My Photos folder.
  3. Tap on a Wallpaper to Select It
  4. Select the Lock Screen Option

You can also opt for “Both” if you want the home screen to match the lock screen.

Which Wallpaper Should You Choose?

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+, odds are that you value image quality.

Both of these phones have a Quad HD+ display with stunningly bright colors. In both cases, the resolution is 2960x1440p. The S9+ is slightly bigger than the S9.

Whichever model you have, it’s worth taking the time to personalize your screen. Take a few minutes to choose wallpapers that fit your style and your mood.

Since the home screen wallpaper gets covered in icons, you might want to choose a simple design there. But with the lock screen wallpaper, you don’t have to worry about icons, so feel free to go for something intricate.

A Final Word

If you don’t like the wallpaper options Samsung has to offer, you can look into wallpaper apps. You can browse images by category or artist to find the one that fits you.

But there are also applications for screen locking. For example, some lock screen apps are voice-activated or support face recognition. You can go for an app that locks the screen with the touch of a screen button.
