Pokemon Go Gen 4 UK News: Niantic adds 26 new creatures to its roster in Oct 2018

Pokemon Go is back!

What was already the most successful mobile game in US history has released the fourth generation of Pokemon. Like with previous generations, not all Pokemon for the generation have been released at once – but the first 26 are available in the wild (or eggs. Or evolutions).

Pokemon Go’s website states “The world of Pokémon GO is evolving once again! This week, keep an eye out for Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region, featured in Pokémon Diamond, Pokémon Pearl, and Pokémon Platinum!”

The first wave brings starter Pokemon Piplup, Turtwig and Chimchar, as well as classics Lucario and Bidoof, amongst others. Notably three additions, Pachirisu, Chartot and Carnivine, are region-exlusive, to America and Russia, the southern hemisphere and south-east USA respectively.

So while 26 Pokemon have been introduced to the game, only 23 are actually available in the UK, and only 7 of those are actually available to catch in the wild. The rest can be aquired from evolutions, eggs, or raids.

For those aware that gen 4 brings with it many evolutions to older Pokemon, don’t get your hopes up – none of these evolutions are available yet. It’s worth hording candy and stardust to upgrade your Kirlia, Magmar or Magneton anyway, for when they do release.

The website also states “Stay tuned to our official channels for updates about new Pokémon, new features, and expansions to existing features like Pokémon storage and more!”, so it’s likely newer waves of Pokemon will be released along with gameplay changes.
