Performing a factory reset (also known as a hard reset) can be useful for many reasons.

People go for this option if they have malware that they can’t get rid of. It can also help if your screen keeps freezing or if you’ve been noticing data corruption issues. Additionally, you can perform a factory reset if you’re selling your phone or gifting it to someone.
What Does a Factory Reset Do?
After a factory reset, your phone will return to the way it was when you first got it. This means you’ll have to set up your phone from scratch.
A factory reset deletes your contacts, downloaded apps, gallery, and all other data you accumulated over time. The only data you keep is what’s recorded on your SIM card. It’s also crucial to keep in mind that this process can get rid of the Google account that you use on your phone.
Fortunately, there are many simple ways to back up your data. Do this first because you can’t undo factory resets.
What Should You Do Before You Perform a Factory Reset?
Here are some of the precautions you need to take.
- Back Up Your Phone
Start by going into Settings. Select Clouds and accounts.
- Samsung Cloud
You can upload your data to your Samsung Cloud, which is associated with your Samsung Account. But there is a data storage limit with this option.
- Backup and Restore
Using Backup and restore, you can upload your data to your Google Drive.
- Smart Switch
If you have a lot of data on your phone, Smart Switch may be your fastest option. It lets you store your data on an SD card. You can also connect your phone to a computer and transfer your data with a USB cable.
- Remove the Google Accounts That Are Associated with Your Phone
Again, you should go into Settings, and then select Clouds and accounts.
Tap on Accounts. You’ll see a list of all the accounts you have used from your phone. Select each Google Account until you’ve removed them all.
How Do You Perform a Factory Reset
Your data is safely stored in a cloud or on a different device. Your Google accounts are no longer associated with your phone. So what do you do next?
- Go Into Settings
- Select General Management
- Select Reset
- Tap on Factory Reset
This will give you the details about what is going to happen. Select RESET. You may need to enter your PIN number or your phone’s password.
- Select DELETE ALL
You’ll have to wait a few minutes for the reset to take place. When you turn the phone back on, it won’t have any of your personal info or preferences.
- Restore Information
If you want, you can restore your data backup. Once again, you should go into Settings, and then Clouds and accounts. You can use the same method that you used for making a backup.
A Final Word
You can also perform a factory reset when it’s impossible to turn your phone on.
To do this, you need to simultaneously press the volume up button, the Bixby button, and the power button. Then you select Wipe data/factory reset.
But of course, you will not be able to perform a backup with your phone off. You might want to look into other options before doing a factory reset with no backups.
