How To Remove Netflix Recently Watched Shows

Netflix is one of the more popular streaming services. From great TV shows to blockbuster movies, and Netflix originals, the app is versatile and puts great entertainment right in front of subscribers.

As you use Netflix, it begins to make recommendations based on the things you’ve watched. You can create a profile for just about everyone in your house or share your password with friends and family so they can piggyback on your subscription.

Netflix also stores your ‘Recently Watched’ shows and movies. While some users may not care, others may want to delete one or all of their watched history.

Removing Your Recently Watched Shows

How to remove recently watched shows from Netflix on PC and Mac:

Step 1

Log in to your Netflix account and hover over your profile icon and click “Your Account”.

Step 2

Click on the profile icon in the upper right-hand corner and click on ‘Account’

Step 3

Underneath the “Profile & Parental Controls” section click on your profile. Then click on “Viewing activity”.

Step 4

Here you can remove any show you’ve ever watched and, if you like, delete an entire series from your history at once. Right-click on the circle with a line through it and select the ‘Hide Series’ option. If you want to remove just one episode simply click on the circle and select ‘Hide from your history’.

You can also scroll all the way down and click the option to ‘Hide All’ to remove your entire history.

That’s it, you’re done! You’ve removed all that questionable content from your Netflix and can watch your shows in the comfort of knowing you can remove them again with ease.

Removing Recently Watched – The App

Most of Netflix’s in-app settings will take you to your mobile browser. Unfortunately, the platform doesn’t give you the option to make changes in the app. Here’s how to remove recently watched shows from Netflix on Android:

  1. Open the Netflix app, and tap on the profile you’d like to edit.
  2. Tap the three vertical lines in the lower right-hand corner.
  3. Tap on the web browser of your choice and log in.
  4. Follow the same steps we’ve listed above to remove your viewing history.

Finding Movies and Shows

Now that you’ve removed your recently viewed shows and movies, it’s time to start watching more content. You can scroll down on the main page to find new and updated content that Netflix thinks you’ll enjoy.

You can also use the search option in the upper left-hand corner (on TV or right-hand corner on a web browser) of the screen to search for shows by name. Fortunately, if Netflix doesn’t have the one you’re looking for, it will make recommendations for shows that are similar.

Lastly, you can find content based on the genre by scrolling all the way down the main page. You will see the option for movies, shows, comedies, horror, independently produced, etc.

Watching in 4K

Once you’ve found the show you’d like to watch, you have a few streaming options. Depending on the subscription you’re paying for, the top tier offers 4K streaming. If you’re using mobile data, you may want to reduce the resolution to save data.

To change your viewing resolution head over to the same settings we did to remove the viewing activity then click on ‘Playback Settings.’

You can do this on a mobile device as well through the app. Just head over to the settings again and tap on the ‘App Settings’ then ‘Cellular Data.’

Netflix is extremely versatile and user-friendly. Aside from the excessive amounts of content, there’s plenty to explore in the settings as well. Enhance your experience by personalizing the settings to meet your specific needs.
