How To Use OK Google on the Huawei P9

Do you want the convenience of a hands-free assistant for your smartphone? Enabling voice commands is easy on your Huawei P9 device. Check out the simple tips below to enable your own virtual assistant and start getting things done with the sound of your voice.

How To Use OK Google on the Huawei P9

Okay Emy

You may not have known that Huawei has its own voice command assistant. “Okay Emy” is the manufacturer’s native voice-enabled assistant, whose features are limited to making calls, rejecting calls, and locating the device. To use this feature, follow these steps:

Step 1 – Access the Smart Assistance Menu

From the Home screen, tap on the Settings icon. In the Settings menu, scroll down to Smart Assistance and tap on this option.

Step 2 – Enable Assistant

In the next menu, tap on Voice Control and then Toggle on the “Voice Wakeup Option.”

If this is your first time, you may need to run through the voice calibration setup so that your device can memorize your voice for future recognition.

OK Google

If you want a more robust virtual assistant for your phone, you may want to try Google’s assistant. To get OK Google on your Huawei P9, follow the simple steps below:

Step 1 – Download and Install Google Play Services

First, go to the Play Store and install the latest version of Google services. It will be the core framework of your assistant, so make sure you have the newest version. In addition, you will also need to download the latest version of Google Assistant to utilize voice commands.

Step 2 – Change Your Language

Next, make sure your phone’s language is correct. Go to your Settings menu and tap on Language & Input. Select the option for English (United States).

Although Google’s first release of the Assistant only supported English, they are constantly adding new languages to the service. The Google Assistant currently supports ten additional languages with more coming soon. If you speak French, Spanish, German, Italian, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Thai, or Portuguese (Brazil), you can use the service in your own language.

Step 3 – Clear Cache

Finally, you may want to clear your cache to delete old temporary files for Google. In addition, this may help the Google Assistant to appear on your device if you are having trouble installing it.

Clear your cache by going to the Settings menu and tapping on Apps. From the Apps menu, scroll down and tap on the Google App option. Next, tap on “Clear Cache and Data” and then reboot or restart your phone.

Step 4 – Calibrate OK Google

You should see the Google Assistant available after Android reloads. Test your new app out by tapping on the little mic icon in the Google widget bar on the Home screen.

If it’s your first time using this app on this particular device, Google will have you run through voice calibration for the Assistant app. You will thus have to say “OK Google” three times for the app to memorize your voice.

Final Thought

You may need to pick between using Okay Emy or OK Google on your Huawei P9 device. Otherwise, you may run into problems if you try to use both simultaneously.

Also, because some Google commands may conflict with Emy’s AI, you may want to disable the “always listening” feature. Instead, simply tap on the mic in the widget bar whenever you want to activate OK Google.
