Drones are tipped to replace fire services, post workers and even milkmen – and now you can add fireworks to the list. Intel recently conducted an all-new type of outdoor light display using drones, and it took the Guinness World Record for the largest drone swarm at the same time.
At Intel’s keynote at this CES this year, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich claimed drones could easily replace fireworks. “I see a future where fireworks and all of their risks of smoke [and] dirt are a thing of the past,” he said. “They’re replaced by shows that have unlimited creativity and potential – and powered by drones.”
While drones may not have the sound or smell of traditional fireworks, they arguably have a more impressive visual vocabulary. In the attached video, the drones are able to form 3D shapes, create complex designs – and even spell out corporate logos. And most importantly, they’re 100% reusable.
Would you be happy to drones replace fireworks, or is it an example of technology sanitising good, traditional fun? Let us know in the comments.
