iPhone 7 – How to Change Language

iOS is currently available in 46 different languages, some of which are variants of one. To make iPhones available to as many people across the globe as possible, Apple is adding new languages all the time.

iPhone 7 - How to Change Language

When setting up your iPhone for the first time, you get to choose your language and region. Of course, this doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it forever. If you’re a polyglot and want to see your iPhone’s interface in another language, there’s an easy way to change it.

Changing iOS Language

Changing the preferred language of your iPhone is a rather simple process that requires no more than a couple of taps within the Settings menu. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to Settings > General.
  2. Scroll down until you see the Language and Region
  3. When you open the menu, tap iPhone Language. You’ll see the list of all available languages.
  4. Choose your preferred language, then tap Done.

This will change the language of the entire iOS interface, including the language of all built-in apps. Bear in mind that this doesn’t apply to the language of 3rd party apps, which have their own individual list of supported languages.

Upon selecting the language, your screen might freeze for a moment or two. Even if it lasts for a bit longer, make sure to not press any buttons or interfere with the process. Once it’s done, the phone will automatically go to the home screen and you’ll see everything in the new language.

Changing the Keyboard Language

Whether you’re learning a new language or already know it, you can type in that language by adding multiple keyboards to your iPhone. The default keyboard language will be the one you chose at setup, but you can change this at any time. Here’s how:

  1. Go to General > Keyboard. You can also access keyboard settings by bringing up the keyboard, holding the globe/emoji button and tapping Keyboard Settings…
  2. From the menu, go to Keyboards and choose the languages that you want to add.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll have multiple keyboards to choose from. To switch between them, tap on the globe button at the bottom of the keyboard, or hold it to see all your available languages and choose one of them.

From the Keyboard Setting menu, you can also choose from a variety of options to add to your keyboard. Go through them and find the ones that appeal to you, and then you can toggle the other ones off so that they don’t bother you.

To remove a language, go to Keyboards, tap Edit, then tap on the red circle next to the language that you want to remove. Tap Done once you’re finished.

The Final Word

As you can see, changing your iPhone’s language is a breeze. This goes for both the iOS system and the keyboard language. As mentioned, Apple is working on adding more languages, so if yours is currently unavailable, you just might see it in the future.
