iPhone 7 – How to Clear Chrome and App Cache

The purpose of cache memory is to make certain apps and services load faster so that you can have a smoother experience. With time, cache builds up, which can not only be burdensome to your storage but also slow down your iPhone.

iPhone 7 - How to Clear Chrome and App Cache

When this happens, you’ll want to learn how to get rid of unnecessary cache and speed up your device. As one of the main browsers that iPhone owners use, other than Safari, Chrome tends to store a whole lot of cache. Since it’s quite hard on your RAM to begin with, this can negatively affect your surfing experience.

The same goes for all other apps that store cache. Let’s see what you can do to clear your iPhone of clutter.

Deleting Chrome Cache

An advantage that Chrome has over Safari is that you can erase all browsing data from within the app. This includes your history, cookies, and most importantly for this tutorial, cache. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open Chrome on your iPhone and tap the three-dot icon to open a pop-up menu.
  2. Go to History, then tap Clear Browsing Data… at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  3. Select the data you want to delete, including Cache, then tap the red Clear Browsing Data
  4. When prompted, confirm the removal, then tap Done at the top-right corner of your screen.

Depending on the last time you cleared your browsing data, this could take more or less time, but it shouldn’t be long. Once it’s done, you’ll likely notice that browsing the web becomes much smoother.

Clearing App Cache

There are two ways you can go about this. The first one requires removing the app that you want to clear cache from altogether. Here’s how you can do this:

  1. Open the Settings
  2. Go to General > iPhone Storage.
  3. You’ll see a list of all your apps, ordered by the amount of storage they take up. Navigate to the app that you want to remove, then tap on it.
  4. Tap Delete App to remove it, as well as all data associated with it.
  5. Go to the App Store and reinstall it. You’ll have a clean app without any data.

As a general rule, if an app is taking up more than 500MB of space, you should remove it and start from scratch if your phone is running out of storage.

Another thing that you can do is make the app remove all cache when you open it. This doesn’t work for all apps, though, but it can still reduce the space that some storage-heavy apps take up.

  1. Go to Settings, then scroll down until you reach the list of apps on your iPhone.
  2. Select an app.
  3. Toggle the Reset cache on next launch button to on.

After this, when you open the app all cache will be deleted. You can do this as many times as you want to keep the app from building up cache.

The Final Word

As you can see, clearing cache from your iPhone is a simple process, if you know where to look. Some apps can store more kilobytes of cache than the size of the app, so it would be smart to do this every once in a while.
