iPhone XS - How to Block Text Messages

Regardless of the origin of the unsolicited messages you may be receiving, blocking them on your iPhone XS is easy. Take a look at some of the methods you can use to ensure that your inbox doesn’t fill up with spam.

Blocking Text Messages from the Messaging App

The simplest way to block all unwanted texts is to use the Messages app. This is what you need to do:

1. Access the Messages App

Launch the Messages app to access all your conversation threads. Swipe to the conversation thread that you wish to block and tap to open it.

2. Tap the “i” icon

Tapping on the “i” icon takes you to the menu with more actions associated with that particular contact. Once inside the menu, you need to tap on the sender’s number to reach the blocking options.

3. Tap Block This Caller

Select Block This Caller at the bottom of the screen to block text messages from that particular contact. A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm the block. Tap on Block Contact for confirmation, and you will stop receiving messages from that particular number.

Blocking Text Messages from the Settings App

You can also easily block text messages from the Settings app. The Settings app allows you to block messages from groups as well. Here is how to do it:

1. Open the Settings App

Access the Settings app and browse for Messages, then tap on Messages to enter the menu.

2. Access Blocked Menu

Once inside the Messages menu, swipe up until you reach Blocked, then tap to access more actions.

3. Select Add New

You can block text messages by tapping on Add New. You need to add individual contacts one by one, which might be a drag. However, you can choose to block messages from groups in the Blocked menu.

4. Select a Contact

Browse your Contacts list for the one you wish to block and add it to the Blocked list by simply tapping on that particular contact.

Unblocking Text Messages

After a while, you might decide that some of the blocked contacts no longer deserve to be blocked. You can quickly unblock them by taking the following steps:

Settings App > Messages > Blocked > Edit

When you tap on the Edit option in the top-right corner, a small red icon appears in front of the blocked contacts’ names. Tap on that icon to remove the sender from the Blocked list and select Unblock to confirm.

Filtering Messages from Unknown Senders

You can also block all messages from unknown senders on your iPhone XS. This is what you need to do:

Settings > Messages > Filter Unknown Senders

Once you toggle on the switch next to Filter Unknown Senders, you will stop receiving iMessage notifications for all unknown senders. The actual messages you receive from those senders will go to a special folder.

The Last Message
