The XS Max is the biggest and the most expensive member of the iPhone XS family. It was unveiled on September 21, 2018 as the flagship model of the 12th generation of iPhone. Like its somewhat smaller counterpart, the XS, the Max runs on Apple’s own iOS 12.

The iOS 12.0 and 12.1 (the latter was released on October 30, 2018) feature updated and improved keyboard features, including the autocorrect function. Though better than on previous versions, the autocorrect is not quite perfect and you might want to turn it off. Read on to find out how to do it.
The Guide
Have in mind that auto-correction is on by default and that you’ll have to go into the keyboard settings to turn it off. Here’s how it’s done:
- Tap the “Settings” app icon on the phone’s Home screen.
- When the “Settings” app launches, find the “General” tab and tap it.
- Once in the “General” menu, you should select the “Keyboards” tab.
- The “Keyboards” menu will then show you the list of keyboard settings that you can edit.
- Navigate to the “Auto-Correction” option and swipe the slider from right to the left.
- Exit the “Settings” app.
You can use the same steps to turn autocorrect back on should you want to do so in the future.
Other Useful Keyboard Settings
The keyboard on the iPhone XS Max comes with many neat features and possibilities. Some of the most important include smart punctuation, caps lock, auto-capitalization, and text replacement. Here’s a word or two on each on them.
Smart Punctuation
The smart punctuation function is one of the most recent additions to the Keyboards arsenal. It was introduced with the iOS 11 and is there to aid you with apostrophes and quotes. For example, it will turn a grave accent at the end of the word into an apostrophe and two successive hyphens into a dash. Though it can be turned off, it is advisable to keep it on.
Caps Lock
When turned on, the caps lock function lets you turn the caps lock on by tapping the “Shift” arrow twice. Like smart punctuation, it can be turned off but it is better to keep it turned on.
Auto-Capitalization
The auto-capitalization function allows you to type without worrying too much about full-stops. When it’s turned on, it will automatically capitalize the first letter of the first word in each sentence. If you want to, you can turn it off in the Keyboards menu.
Text Replacement
This neat function allows you to create shortcuts for the words and phrases you frequently use and reduce the time you spend typing. To create one, tap the “Text Replacement” tab in the “Keyboards” menu. Next, tap the “+” sign and enter the word/phrase and its shortcut. To save it, tap “Save”.
Should you want to edit or delete a replacement, you should go to the “Text Replacement” section of the “Keyboards” menu. To edit, tap “Edit” and select the replacement that you want to change. When done editing, tap “Save”. To delete, you should tap “Edit” and then “Delete”. Tap the “Save” button when you’re finished.
The Wrap Up
Turning the autocorrect on and off is pretty simple and can be done in a matter of seconds. The additional features, such as caps lock, text replacement, and auto-capitalization can also be toggled on and off in a few taps.
