Averatec 1000 review

£750

However, it’s the ‘hidden extras’ that are missing here. There’s nothing like IBM’s ThinkVantage security features, or the sheer robustness of a ThinkPad; and this is one reason why an IBM X40 will cost you £400 more.

Averatec 1000 review

In terms of value, the Averatec is cheaper than our current A-Listed Value Notebook, the Elonex Soliton ProWire/150-2. With a larger, higher resolution screen, more power and a longer warranty, it’s a better all-rounder – but is far less portable and attractive. On the other hand, if you’re looking for an even cheaper portable machine, consider Evesham’s Voyager X4. This again loses out for portability, with a weight of 2.25kg and three-hour battery life, but it’s much faster and includes a more comfortable 14in TFT.

Nonetheless, the 1000 is as quick as it needs to be, and its battery life is superb. If you’re looking for an attractive, portable and well-built machine, you won’t do better at this price.
