72 new emojis are coming to your phone, so you can use even fewer of your words

I’m somewhat late to the adoption of emoji, and still don’t use them very often. There is one notable exception, though. I mean, how can you not love this sceptical little guy?thinking_face_emoji

… although the Android version looks like someone has left it out in the sun too long:thinking_face_google

Regardless, the remaining 1,600 seldom get a look in, and there will be even more emojis for me to completely ignore soon. The Unicode Consortium has approved 72 new emojis, raising the total number occupying your smartphone by 4.5%.

The new batch are the usual mix of facial expressions, hand symbols, animals and food that you’d expect, although there’s also a new one for selfie, which shows what happens when two tech trends meet head on:selfie_emoji

It’s also good to see the stuff of human nightmares getting represented by this monstrosity:clown_face_emoji

And there’s also “man with giant white askew nose”:sneezing_emoji(on closer inspection, it might just be sneezing.)

These new emojis will all be integrated by Unicode this month but when you’ll see them on your phone is less clear, depending on how good your manufacturer is at sending out updates. However, they will very likely be part of iOS 10 and Android N, giving you another reason to update immediately – or think twice, depending on your disposition.[gallery:1]
