The Line chat app has been growing steadily for years, and so have the features it offers. It started as just another chat app but has since been updated with all kinds of useful features like games, stickers, self-deleting messages, support for 360-degree photos, and so on.

The app has close to 220 million users, with individual users having hundreds if not thousands of friends. That, of course, can create problems when you want to mention all of your friends in a single group message. Read on and learn what you can do about that.
Group Chats
As Line was growing, so did the demand for features that make chatting with other users easier. One of the significant updates made it possible to mention up to 20 friends in group chats. It helped users get each other’s attention more easily, especially in large group chats.
With that said, the feature that allows you to mention all of the members in a group or all of your friends is still in development, according to the PR team.
Mentioning Friends in a Group
You can mention specific friends in groups by typing @ and choosing the person you want to mention. You can use the function to mention up to 20 people at the same time. There is, however, a way to mention everyone in the group, but you’ll have to select every person manually. That may not be an issue in smaller groups, but if you want to mention 1000 people, it will take you at least an hour to select every person. As already said, users are still waiting for the ”mention all” function.
Useful Line Tips
Like other popular chatting apps, Line is keeping up with the demands of its ever-growing user base by incorporating features like the auto-destruct messages, taking screenshots, animated profile images, and so on.
Here are some of the useful Line features you might not have known existed.
The Sticker Game
Most chat and social media apps have their own stickers and emotes you can use to express how you feel. Line has a massive collection of stickers, which is often the reason why people start using the app in the first place. There are hundreds, if not thousands of stickers for every mood and reaction. You can use stickers to say anything you want without writing a single letter.
Save Data When Sharing Photos
If you use Line to send and receive a lot of photos without a Wi-Fi connection, you are probably using a lot of your cellular data. Unlike many other similar apps, Line allows you to reduce the quality of the photos you use in the app. You can compress files and save them to your device. If your Auto-play feature is turned on, you can set it so it only works when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you get a massive phone bill, you will know that Line had nothing to do with it.
New Ways of Adding Friends
Adding friends is not a problem for most chatting apps, as you usually do it by entering your friends’ phone numbers or scanning QR codes. Line took things a little further and made it possible to add friends by shaking your phone. How? Well, find your friend in the “Friends” tab and just shake your phone when you come across a person you want to add to the list.
Use Line Without a Phone Number
There is a way you can set up your Line account without using your phone number. Make sure you create a backup of your chat history so you can continue where you left off. Here is what you should do to unlink your phone number from the app:
- Open the app.
- Select “More,” then “Settings,” and tap “Accounts.”
- Select “Link to Facebook” and accept the permissions.
- Uninstall the app.
- Install the app again.
- Login using your Facebook ID instead of your phone number.
You can now continue using the app without your phone number.
Find Any Photo in Seconds
Sometimes you want to show a friend some photo that was shared in a group chat on Line. Well, finding it manually is like looking for a needle in a haystack sometimes. Line has realized that people struggle with that, so they made it possible to save all images to your phone.
Here is how you do it:
- Open “Chat” and select a room with shared photos inside.
- Tap the dropdown button on the top and select “Photos.”
- Mark the photos you want to save and tap the “Save” button. Select the folder where you want to save the images so you can easily locate them whenever you need them.
