Microsoft leaks new phone names ahead of MWC announcement

Microsoft is set to do a live presentation from MWC at 7.30 GMT this morning, but may have rained on its own parade.

Yesterday evening, while all eyes were on Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge launch, The Verge noticed Microsoft had published a blank page to its news centre.

The page, which has since been yanked but can be viewed in Google’s cache here, bares the title “Microsoft Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL: keeping you prepared for anything” but has no associated text.

What does this mean? Well, undoubtedly there will be two new flagship Lumias and the name seems to suggest we’re looking at a phablet and smartphone combination.

We doubt they will come pre-loaded with Windows 10, as it’s still in Technical Preview, and there are no specifications out there.

Be sure to return here at 7.30, when we will be running a live blog from the event.
