HTC’s £100 summer reduction seems to have been extended and you now have until the end of today to buy one, if the price is right. That is assuming that HTC doesn’t extend the promotion again: right now, though, they’re saying it ends today – Thursday 25th August.
I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for HTC phones, and even though my trusty-but-scarred One M8 is now sat in a second-hand shop window, I have a lot of time for the Taiwanese company’s handsets. Earlier this year, I reviewed the HTC 10 and it’s a genuinely brilliant smartphone.
The trouble is that it retails at the same price as the Samsung Galaxy S7, and to my mind, that makes it a tough recommendation. While it’s a dead-heat on most metrics, the Galaxy S7 has a marginally better camera, is a touch quicker, and performed better in our battery tests. On top of that, it also has waterproofing and wireless charging, both qualities that the HTC 10 misses out on.

Knock £100 off the SIM-free price though, and things get a lot more interesting. And that’s what HTC has done. Just add one to your basket on the HTC site, tap in the code “summer100” and watch as a list price of £569.99 magically becomes £469.99. That’s a super deal.
You’ve got until August 18 (now August 25th – see the update above) to to save up if you want to make the jump, but if you prefer a contract for monthly payments and bundled minutes and data, there are some excellent deals out there too. The best I’ve seen is at Smart Phone Company, where you can get an HTC 10 for £29 per month with no upfront cost, with a decent 3GB of data.[gallery:8]
Whichever way you go, though, you’ll find the HTC 10 a brilliant companion and, as I said in my review, it really is the best thing they’ve done in years.
