The iPhone 7 isn’t the first time Apple has played risky games with headphone sockets: the original iPhone’s was set within a smaller-than-normal collar that was too tight for anything other than Apple’s own white earbuds. It got away with it that time, but never repeated that particular experiment.

So, is its latest move another false step or does it hint at how we’ll all listen to music on the move within the next year or two?
