Moto Z2 Force – Sound Not Working – What to Do

It can take a while to notice that your phone’s not producing any sound. The reasons behind this problem might have to do with faulty software, but there’s also a chance you have a hardware issue at hand.

Moto Z2 Force - Sound Not Working - What to Do

There are a few different ways that this can manifest. In some cases, sound problems are intermittent, and it’s impossible to tell what triggered them. Other users simply lose all sound coming from the speakers. There’s also a chance that the sound coming from your phone will be muffled or unusually quiet.

Let’s take a look at some of the steps you can take to solve this issue.

Check if the Phone is on Silent or on Do Not Disturb

While these functions are extremely useful, they can switch on when they’re not wanted or needed. Before you do anything else, check if your phone has been switched to silent.

To check your sound settings, go here:

  1. Settings
  2. Sound
  3. “Do Not Disturb” Preferences

Make sure Do Not Disturb isn’t turned on. Additionally, make sure to take your phone off vibrate. While you’re testing the speakers, your ring volume should be turned to a high setting.

Make Sure There’s Nothing Blocking the Speakers

The speakers on your phone might need cleaning. Running a cotton swab across them should be enough to get rid of common household dirt. You can also use a medium bristle toothbrush or invest in a can of compressed air to blow the dirt out of the speakers.

Phone covers can cause problems as well. Remove the cover before you start testing your speakers because there’s a chance that the plastic is muffling the sounds from your phone.

Try a Soft Reset

You probably know it always helps to turn your device off and on again. Use the power button to reboot your Moto Z2 Force, and then test the speakers again.

Clear App Cache or App Data

When you clear your cache data, your phone’s data won’t be impacted in any way. Clearing your app data has more lasting effects, but it can improve your phone’s functions considerably. If clearing the cache didn’t work, this should be your next step. There are apps that cause hidden malfunctions that may affect your speakers.

To remove app data, try the following:

  1. Go into Settings
  2. Select Apps & notifications
  3. Select App info
  4. Choose an App
  5. Tap Storage
  6. Tap “Clear Data”

You can also try uninstalling apps that seem suspicious.

Perform a Factory Reset

A factory reset can fix most software issues. However, this process removes all your personal data, so you should approach it with care.

Contact a Service Center

If none of the above solutions worked, there might be a hardware issue at hand. Contact a repair shop to find out your options.

A Final Word

What if there are no sound malfunctions but your phone still isn’t performing to your standards?

The Moto Z2 Force has fairly sturdy speakers that can handle most challenges. But if you’re unhappy with the sound quality for any reason, you can look into a mod. The mods are stereo with separate left and right speakers and you can snap them onto any Moto Z phone.
