Kindle coming to UK for Christmas?
Reports suggest Amazon’s Kindle eBook reader may hit the UK in time for Christmas.
According to the Mobile Today website, Amazon has struck a deal with Qualcomm to manufacture the device and is in negotiations with a mobile operator to provide the free wireless network which Kindle owners use to download content from the Amazon Kindle store.
The report does not cite sources or name the mobile provider, though discussions are said to have taken place with Vodafone, 3 and Orange.
Amazon is apparently eyeing a Christmas release and has already secured deals with all the major book publishers, though it’s still trying to pin down news and magazine publishers.
Unsurprisingly, Amazon is keeping quiet on the deal and trotted out the party line when questioned. “We have previously announced that we are looking to release the Kindle with our international customers. At the moment we have no timeline.”
Qualcomm refused to comment on the story.
