Mobile Gmail gets Buzz upgrade

Google has integrated Buzz, its social-network aggregation tool, into its Gmail mobile app.

Mobile Gmail gets Buzz upgrade

While mobile users of the service could already post Buzz messages on-the-go via the web app, Gmail for mobile lacked the central feature of Buzz: integration of incoming social-network content into users’ Gmail inbox.

“With the latest iteration of Gmail for mobile, we’ve worked to integrate Buzz with your mobile inbox,” said Alex Kennberg, a Google Mobile software engineer. “Now, you’ll see buzz in your inbox on your phone just like you do in the desktop version of Gmail.”

“Depending on your inbox integration settings, buzz gets sent to your Gmail inbox when people @reply you, comment on something you’ve posted, or comment on a post after you.”

The Buzz feature on Gmail mobile is opt-in and has several different privacy settings, reflecting the negative backlash Google faced at its launch, where users found all their Gmail information automatically synced with Buzz when they signed up.
