Apple to ship iPad 3G in US before taking pre-orders in UK
Apple’s seeming disregard for European customers continues with the launch of the 3G version of the iPad in the US.
The iPad 3G will begin shipping in the US on 7 May – three days before Apple will even start taking pre-orders for the regular iPad in the UK and the rest of Europe.
Apple announced last week that it was delaying the international release of the iPad so that it could meet stronger than expected demand in the US.
The company said it didn’t expect iPads to actually start shipping in the UK until the end of May.
Apple even had the temerity to suggest customers would take heart from the delay in its official press statement last week. “We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason—the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far,” the statement read.
Apple claims to have sold more than half a million iPads in the US since it went on sale on 3 April.
