Google’s online Calendar service has gone down “for the majority of users”, according to the search giant.

A message posted on Google’s App Status Dashboard at 4:30pm BST states that: “We’re aware of a problem with Google Calendar affecting a majority of users. The affected users are unable to access Google Calendar.”
A subsequent update published at 5pm states that “Our team is continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 5:30pm with more information about this problem. Thank you for your patience.”
The outage heralds an unwelcome return for the downtime that blighted Google’s services last autumn. Gmail suffered from several reliability issues last September, with a routine maintenance bug knocking out the webmail service for several hours at one point.
Google Calendar was beginning to reappear with a “slow connection” warning at the time of publication, although diary entries were failing to appear.
