Apple is to end support for applications that were developed and compiled for its iOS2.x operating system for iPhones and other mobile devices.

The move is seen as part of a push towards its new mobile operating system, iOS4, and the company will no longer accept software for its App Store that targets older devices.
“Make sure that your applications are compatible with iOS4,” the company said in the news section of its iPhone Development Center.
“All new applications and updates to existing applications must be built with iPhone SDK 4. In addition, the App Store will no longer support applications that target iOS 2.x”.
The company launched iOS4 last week, and although many users suffered problems updating, the OS includes new features that Apple wants app developers to explore.
