Channel Five has pulled out of Project Canvas, the web TV joint venture looking to bring video on demand to set-top boxes.

The BBC Trust officially approved the public broadcaster’s participation in Project Canvas last month, letting it join up with Channel 4, ITV, BT, Talk Talk and Arqiva.
Currently up for sale, Five is pulling out “pending a review of its digital strategy,” but will still offer its content via the project.
“We continue to support the objectives of Project Canvas and despite withdrawing our interest in the venture we believe it will be a critical part of our strategy for reaching consumers in the future,” said Charles Constable, director of strategy at Five.
Richard Halton, director of Project Canvas, praised Five’s support so far. “We look forward to working with them as a content provider to the platform in the future.”
