A worker at a subsidiary of Foxconn Technology Group in south China’s Guangdong Province has died after falling from a dormitory building, Xinhua news agency reported.
The police were investigating the death, the agency said, without giving further details.
Ten suicides this year at its sprawling manufacturing base has brought intense scrutiny of Foxconn, which has been struggling with a wave of labour unrest in China, where increasingly assertive migrant workers are calling for better conditions and higher pay.
Foxconn, a unit of Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, makes the iPhone and other products for Apple, and also counts Dell, HP, Nokia and Sony Ericsson among its clients.
The spate of deaths at the world’s largest contract mobile phone maker has caused its shares to slump below HK$5.0 this month, less than half the value they commanded in mid-January.
Hon Hai has about 800,000 employees in China, and is one of the country’s largest private employers.
