Orange could be about to reshape the pricing model for Apple’s iPad, according to the vaguest press statement ever released and a flurry of web rumours.

“Orange UK will offer new purchase options for iPad users, including more affordable prices when purchased with a data service plan for iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G models in the coming months,” the company said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the company told PC Pro they weren’t allowed to divulge any more information regarding price or dates, but the deal looks likely to feature a subsidised tablet in exchange for a bundled data deal.
Without naming sources, London freesheet City AM claimed in a report that the tablet would be available before Christmas and cost only £200, well below the normal £529 starting price for a 3G version of the tablet.
The pay-off for a cheaper deal would almost certainly amount to a lengthy contract of at least 18 months from Orange or T-Mobile.
The move would herald a swift reaction from Apple to the emergence of several Android tablets looking to muscle into the market.
