Apple’s next-generation tablet looks likely to feature front and rear mounted cameras, according to component suppliers working on “iPad 2”.

Quoting unnamed sources from a quartet of component suppliers working with Apple on the iPad, Reuters said the revamped model would feature cameras on the front and rear, a reduction in weight and bulk and boast longer battery life.
Camera module makers Genius Electronic Optical and Largan Precision were also starting new supply deals with Apple, the sources told Reuters.
A revamped iPad launch in the first half of 2011 would be in line with the company’s drip-feed upgrades, with small changes made to its products about once a year, considering the iPad arrived in January this year.
The company is also keen to head off competition from a slew of manufacturers – from Acer to Toshiba – that are coming to market with rival tablets.
