Google’s attempts to dominate the web TV market face trouble, as the firm has asked some manufacturers to delay the launch of TV sets based on its software.

Google sent out word to some hardware makers last week asking them not to announce additional products yet, saying the delay may allow the company to improve its software, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing people briefed on the company’s plans.
However, Samsung will go ahead with its launch of Google TV products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January, the paper said said. The initial Google TV devices are offered by Sony and Logitech.
Google did not immediately reply to an email seeking comment.
The format already has competition from web-enabled set-top boxes, including the Boxee Box and Apple TV.
