Technical problems have delayed YouView’s launch by as much as six months, according to reports.

Formerly known as Project Canvas, the web TV joint venture between BT, the BBC and five others was expected to launch this summer.
But, according to a report in the Daily Mail, technical problems and infighting between the project members over costs have caused delays.

Citing anonymous sources, the report said YouView now won’t arrive until the end of 2011 or even next year – leaving its members trailing behind in the race to offer web TV.
A note on the YouView website says: “We haven’t quite tied down the launch date yet, but all being well it’ll be in the first half of 2011.”
A YouView spokeswoman said no launch date had yet been set, but confirmed expectations for the service to arrive in mid-2011. “We’ve said that our aspiration is to launch this summer, however we are keeping this under review as our most important consideration is to get the service right.”
Aside from BT and the BBC, YouView is also backed by ITV, Channel 4, Arqiva, TalkTalk and Five.
