Apple ramps up production of iPad 2

The Wall Street Journal cited sources familiar with the tablet as saying the new iPad would be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, although the screen resolution would remian the same.

The newspaper said the retail price would be similar to the current versions of the tablet (between £429 and £714 inc VAT), although it’s expected to feature more memory when it arrives in shops within the next two months.

A spokeswoman for Apple declined to comment, but the Journal sources said the launch was critical to Apple’s success as it looks to overcome the leave of absence taken by chief executive Steve Jobs on medical grounds.
