Retailer offers £200 for old iPads… and £10 for other tablets
Currys and PC World will be accepting trade-ins of old tablets – just in time for the arrival of the iPad 2.
Customers can bring in any working tablet to the Dixons-owned stores and be given up to £200 off the price of a new device.
However, only Apple tablets will earn the top discount, while other brands – including Dixon’s own Advent Vega – will only earn discounts of £10.
Customers will earn £150 for a working Wi-Fi version of the iPad with no “cosmetic damage”, or £200 for a 3G version. The amount of storage doesn’t alter the level of discount.
The deal will help the one in four owners of the first-gen iPad who plan to upgrade to the new device, according to research from Consumer Intelligence.
However, the discount might not be as sweet as it seems, as the first-generation devices are still listed for well over £300 on eBay.
The iPad goes on sale in the UK on 25 March at 5pm, from £399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version and £499 for the 3G version.
