Consumers are activating more than half a million Android devices every day, according to Google’s Android chief Andy Rubin.
Rubin made the claim on his Twitter account, although he didn’t reveal how many of the devices being activated are smartphones and how many are tablets.
He did say, however, that week-to-week growth in gadgets running the Google software is currently at 4.4%.
In December last year, Rubin tweeted that daily Android phone activations had surpassed 300,000.
Android smartphones have surpassed Apple’s iPhone in popularity as the Google software powers the main handsets of manufacturers including Samsung, HTC and Motorola.
These companies have also developed Android tablets to take on the market-leading iPad.
