Siri silence leaves iPhone users in the dark

Apple is under fire after the standout new addition to the iPhone 4S – personal assistant Siri – went walkabout for the second time.

Siri silence leaves iPhone users in the dark

Although the service is now back up and running, users yesterday reported radio silence when they asked questions of the iPhone’s voice-activated helper.

Apple has yet to explain the outage, the second time the system has failed since it launched last month, but posters on the company’s forums shed more light on the issue.

“It goes away to think for quite a while with a spinning glow and returns with ‘Sorry, something’s gone wrong. Can you try that again?’ or something similar each time,” said pgoldie on a 17-page Apple Discussion thread on the subject that has been read by 25,000 visitors.

“Then it just said out loud (but did not write out) ‘Sorry, I’m having trouble connecting to the network’. I’m on Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi is working well for other apps. Maybe their servers are overwhelmed?”

We have yet to hear back from Apple about the issue, but some users on the forum highlighted the fact that the service remains in beta.
