Netflix lands on Virgin Media's TiVo

The ISP said 40,000 of its customers have been selected to begin testing the new service starting this week, with plans to offer Netflix to its entire 1.7 million TiVo customer base by the end of the year.

Those participating in the trial must either login to an account with an existing Netflix subscription or register a new one with the service, both of which can be done through the app.

Virgin’s TiVo boxes use their own dedicated 10Mbit/sec broadband line, meaning your internet connection won’t be burdened when watching Netflix streaming video via the device.

Netflix, which launched in the UK in January last year, has already been available through platforms such as the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 for some time, as well as online.

The service will face competition from established UK video streaming services such as Amazon’s Lovefilm, although this partnership marks the first time Netflix has been available on a pay-TV platform.
